During this Twenty-One Day opportunity, we will seek God individually as well as collectively through prayer and fasting. Our time of consecration before the Lord will include the following:
During Daniel's fast, you are crucifying the flesh, forbidding what your body craves naturally. This will prevent your flesh from dominating your spirit. Instead, your spirit dominates your flesh.
Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, "Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see." So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So
the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.
At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.
It was recorded in the Bible that Daniel fasted for 21 days, and this is where the term Daniel fast came about. Daniel ate no "pleasant bread."
The Daniel fast involves a spiritual commitment to God. “Daniel proposed in his heart that he would not defile himself” (Dan. 1:8).
Faith and Prayer is foundational to the Daniel Fast.
We will be fasting from the hours of 6am to 6pm. The Destiny Center will be open nightly for a time of corporate prayer from 6:30 to 7:30pm.
The Daniel fast is a partial fast. It is not absolute meaning you can eat and drink certain things but we are asking that you refrain from meats, grease and sweets during the fast.
We are asking that you use moderation in your eating and take authority over your flesh by denying it of the things that it craves.
Eat some fruits, vegetables, salad, 100% fruit juices, plenty of water, crackers, baked or broiled fish or chicken. Refrain from the fast food places.
Those of you with health challenges or taking medicines that require you eat or drink with the meds, please follow the advice of your doctor. We are not asking you to stop taking your meds.
If you have to have food for health reasons you can refrain from television or other activities that will take you away from the presence of the Lord and engage in deeper level of prayer.
Maybe there is something you like to do, but it is always stealing the time and energy you have to seek God. Giving up those things may be more effective than giving up on meat in a "normal" Daniel's fast.
